This is a rare Christian Dior Haute Couture ensemble by Marc Bohan for Daimaru Japan 1960's era. Labelled Christian Dior Exlcusivite Pour La Japon par Daimaru, it is made up of a dress, a cropped over-piece and a detachable shawl all in olive green wool trimmed in contrasting stitching.  The condition is good overall however there are some signs of moth damage in the shawl and the front of the skirt. There is sufficient fabric in the shawl and an additional piece of unfinished matching fabric to replace the front panel of the skirt if so required. The lining in the cropped over-piece has some fraying however it is still in useable condition. All metal zippers in tact. This is both a collectors piece and an elegant ensemble with a wearable option though requiring some minor repairs. Both the underdress and the over-piece  zip up the back, there are side pockets in the wool skirt, the buttons are all original.

In 1953, Daimaru signed an exclusive contract with Christian Dior, the first partnership with overseas designers, and the Dior Salon appeared at the Shinsaibashi store.  From that year on, there began a link to Japan with the House of  Dior, whose retro styles revolutionized post-war fashion. Dior would go on to partner with two Japanese brands, Kanebo Textile Company and Daimaru Department Store. Daimaru, with its long-standing textile tradition, was given the rights to make clothes based off the patterns from Christian Dior and done in fabrics either by Daimaru or imported from France. As a result, Dior haute couture designs were then produced in Japan.
